Born Mary Morningstar in a small Mid-Atlantic town, Mistress Ginger’s youth is something of a mystery. By 2006 Mary assumed the stage name “Mistress Ginger.” As the resident dominatrix at Professor Rotten-bottom's Pre-Opera House of Whores, she made her theatrical debut in the satirical cabaret spectacle “Broadway Bound...and Gagged.”
She has since hung up her whip and starred in a “The Mistress Ginger Junkyard Spectacular” with Junk-yard Theater followed by “Bedroom Eyes”. After a sensational world tour playing to every speakeasy and slaughterhouse this side of the Sahara, Ginger returned to Minnesota where they presented their final run of shows at the 2010 Minnesota Fringe Festival.
In 2011, Ginger celebrated the five-year anniversary of her stage debut with “Geek In The Pink”, followed by “Spell No. 2,” a Junkyard Theater production that explores Ginger’s overwrought second chakra by way of stories, dances, and luscious jazz tunes. The summer of 2012 was devoted to the Junkyard Theater Straight-Up Cabaret Projects, a successful Kickstarter campaign to support the development of Junkyard Theater’s musical sensibilities and a new “straight up” cabaret show.
She decided to commemorate her 10 years as vegan by writing a vegan cookbook, Mistress Ginger Cooks! Everyday Vegan Food for Everyone, published by Book Publishing Company in May 2014. To coincide with the release of the book, Ginger has created a new cabaret show called “Mistress Ginger Cooks: Love Songs to Turn Up the Heat”, which premiered in Minneapolis in February 2014 and will be touring other cities later this year.
